Foam pipe pigs - Pipe Purge Dam
We have recently been making some foam pipe purge dams
Pipe purge dams are basically a foam pipe cleaning pig with an addition. The addition is a metal tube (either copper or stainless steel)
So, what are they for?
Well, they are used when welding pipes. A standard foam pig is inserted into one end of the pipe and a purge dam in the other end. They are then manoeuvred so that they are sitting on either side of the welding area. The tube can then be used to pump an inert gas (Argon) into the pipe welding area so providing a nice safe environment for the welding to take place. The argon helps to remove contaminants that are in the air so producing a better quality weld
Standard foam cleaning pigs are available directly from our site, all manufactured around British standard pipe sizes, but for the specials, you need to talk to us :)
