Most companies have internal codes (SKU's) for products that only make sense to themselves. Often that code is just a random alphanumeric code or even just a serial number. Graphskill were the same, for example, one of our codes was 1100/T316/015 - Now be honest. Any clue what that is? Nope? That is why we developed the Graphskill SUMS (Standard Universal Measuring system). So, 1100/T316/015 became UBOLT/T316/M8*22*46*25 which straight away is easier to understand. Hopefully, now you can see the product is a UBOLT - which is a massive step forward. While this method of identification was primarily devised to categorise pipe supports for ease of identification, it could easily be extended to most engineering base products.
It is principally a code made up of alphanumeric characters & punctuation which give the product it relates to a unique reference showing its category, it's material & more importantly its dimensions.
If we take our 1100/T316/015 code, it was changed to UBOLT/T316/M8*22*46*25
The basic form is: CATEGORY/MATERIAL/UNIQUE IDENTIFICATION, and when extended to a U-bolt becomes: UBOLT/MATERIAL/M*D*H*T
Now, once we understand that M*D*H*T means Thread Size*Inside Diameter*Inside Height*Thread length, then this uniquely defines the product.
